With no disrespect for all those Chiropractors who have come before and given so much to chiropractic, when I first read that dedication, it seemed Dr. Carver was speaking directly to me nearly 100 years ago. Surely he was prophetically speaking of the liberal share of my life and fortune which has been dedicated to the advancement and science of chiropractic. How does the Air Adjustor keep the recoil out of the doctor's, hand, wrist, elbow, etc.?

 The Air Adjustor is unique because it doesn't utilize strike distance to gain force as other adjustors do.  The Air Adjustor uses kinetic energy transfer with a toggle recoil like thrust. By eliminating strike distance as the mechanism of increasing force the physics law of equal and opposite forces doesn't come into play.  This means there is very little recoil applied back to the doctor.

Evolution of the Alpha Wave into the Air Adjustor

Because the Air Adjustor uses air power, it has the ability to produce a sustained pulse.  After using the pulse on many patients, it became evident that there was a "sweet spot" where near miraculous results occurred.  When that "sweet spot" became so frequent that it was predictable, it was decided to test to find out the frequency of the pulse.  Testing was performed using a synchronometer and it was revealed that the instrument was pulsing at 8-12 pulses per second.  Further testing was done by using an oscilloscope.  The "sweet spot" in the pulse mode that provided such amazing patient results showed to produce a D flat tone.  Amazingly a base clarinet produces 8.66 hz or alpha wave in D flat, the same frequency as the pulse of the Air Adjustor!   This explained the incredible patient results with the pulse setting.

Physics of the adjustment:
The Air Adjustor is a full spine Toggle Recoil action instrument. The mechanism of the Toggle recoil adjustment is the most dynamic in chiropractic. Why is the Toggle adjustment so dynamic? In the Newton's Cradle demonstration device the energy is transferred from the first ball to the second and so on until the last ball is the one that's moved. I realized how the first ball didn't bounce back or recoil but all the energy went to move the last ball. Isn't that what we want our adjustors to do?  Each suspended ball represents a layer of tissue, skin, adipose, muscle, tendon and then the last ball as vertebrae/nerve complex. The energy didn't come back or kick back at the first ball but all the energy was transfered to the last ball. This is where the energy of the adjustment should be, deep in the tissue at the vertebrae and not back in your hand and wrist.  I believe this kinetic energy transfer mechanism of the Toggle Recoil is the dynamic reason for more profound organ and physiology changes in the early years of Chiropractic. The diversified moves, while having their effect on the frame and range of motion do not contain the essential element of setting energy in motion down a nerve, like the quick recoil aspect of a toggle.
